I was introduced to photography after hearing about an enticing study abroad course that was to take place in India. I've always had a strong interest in India, inspired by Bollywood films and the Bollywood dance classes I took as a teen, and I simply couldn't let the opportunity pass. As the only non-art or photography major signed up for the trip, I was allowed to join under the condition that I take an introductory photography course to learn the basics.
Seizing this once in a lifetime opportunity was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Being a step behind my classmates on the India trip, I essentially had to learn on the job. My introductory course had taught me about aperture and shutter speed, but did little to prepare me for photographing people living their daily lives on the streets of India. The evening critiques were challenging, but they taught me to toughen up and put the lessons I'd learned to practice. The most rewarding part of my India trip was returning to find my shot of the Taj Mahal had made it on the double spread cover of the Longwood Alumni Magazine.
Below you'll find a selection of my favorite photographs I've taken in previous years. Some feature my most precious memories while traveling and others are a bit closer to home. I hope you enjoy!
