Alpha-gal, the epidemic you’ve never heard of, is spreading by the day. Patients, like myself, are suffering from newfound allergies, a lack of doctor knowledge and a fear of the unknown.
At present there are very few resources to assist alpha-gal patients. Social media is fraught with misinformation and updated sites are hard to come by. In addition, general knowledge about alpha-gal and its serious side affects are not widespread.
To design an app for patients, physicians, and loved ones to learn, prepare and navigate life with alpha-gal. Providing vetted information, personalized medical IDs and a safe community to connect with shared experiences.
As Alpha-gal's creator, I designed and conducted all interviews for this project under the direction of my mentor, John Weiss.
I conducted six interviews with alpha-gal patients via Zoom to learn their needs.
After meeting with helpful advisors within the Alpha-gal medical sector, I am considering pitching this app design to funders and advocates interested in banding together to create expansive resources for Alpha-gal patients. As news continues to circulate and more patients receive diagnosis it is imperative that we work together to find a cure. As it stands, we are the experts on ourselves.
