Farm To Crag (F2C) is a climber-driven non-profit responding to climate change by encouraging food choices that create healthier athletes, thriving communities, and climate resilient soils.
The current Farm To Crag map, helping users discover regeneratively sourced meals on their climbing trips, lacks the input from users they desire. Adding to and accessing their map on-the-go is challenging and glitchy.
Create an intuitive app that aids climbers in their search for meals, encourages the addition of new food sources, and generates a strong sense of community.
As Farm To Crag's Designer, I was in charge of creating our design system, prototyping the wireframes and conducting user testing with the outdoor community. Throughout the process I collaborated closely with our board members, our product manager and our mapping engineers to ensure our finished product met the needs of the organization.
I discovered 7 potential indirect competitors from both the climbing app community and the food app community.
We conducted six interviews with climbers via Zoom.
After testing with 3 additional users, it was clear that a desire for amore refined search, enhanced socialization features and a clearer incentive for users to add content to the map were all essential.
During the spring, we interviewed 20 Farm To Crag map users at the Farm To Crag Yosemite event and returned with ample feedback to begin iteration.
In the fall of 2022, we attended a Farm To Crag event in Chattanooga, TN where we showed our prototype to an additional 15 outdoor enthusiasts. As we continue to iterate on the app, we have begun working with developers and applying for grants to kickstart the Farm To Crag app.
My work with Farm To Crag expanded beyond UX. Check out the other projects I designed. Including two strategic plans (inDesign), a grant application (PPT), and the latest website (Squarespace).
